Meet Jasper
Jasper is a very loving, intelligent, and affectionate Aussie who thrives in the right environment. He is deeply bonded to his family, incredibly loyal, loves to snuggle, and enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, walks, runs, and trail adventures. He is highly food motivated, eager to learn, and does very well out in public settings and on outings.
Jasper will be 2 years old on June 21st. He is crate trained, walks well on a leash, and knows his basic commands along with a few fun tricks. He is very eager to learn and responds well to redirection with familiar phrases like “Where’s your toy?” or “Get your toy,” as well as simple verbal corrections. He loves being active and especially enjoys hiking trails and outdoor adventures.
Outside of the home, Jasper is rarely reactive. He tends to be more shy and reserved around unfamiliar people and will usually keep his distance rather than seek attention. He does well on walks, trails, and public outings, especially when given space and clear structure.
He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on all vaccinations. Jasper has been groomed consistently every 6–8 weeks since puppyhood. While grooming is not his favorite experience, he does tolerate it well with his current groomer, and we would recommend maintaining a regular grooming routine as he transitions into a new home.
Unfortunately, Jasper struggles with reactivity and protective behaviors inside the home. He has always been uncomfortable with visitors and can become overstimulated when new people, especially children, enter his space. While he can settle with structure and management, there have been instances where he has nipped after appearing calm, so we no longer feel we can safely manage these behaviors in a busy family environment.
Jasper also has food and resource guarding tendencies, particularly around other dogs during mealtimes. He currently lives with another senior dog and does best with structured feeding routines and supervision. Outside of feeding situations, he does enjoy playing and interacting with other dogs.
Jasper would do best in:
• A calm, structured home
• An experienced dog owner familiar with herding breeds or reactive dogs
• A home without small children or frequent visitors
• Possibly with a calm, respectful dog after proper introductions
• A home willing to continue behavioral training and management
This decision has been heartbreaking for our family because Jasper is very loved. We simply recognize that we cannot provide the level of training, management, and environment he needs long term, and our priority is finding him a home where he can be successful, safe, and understood.
We are committed to finding the right fit for him and are happy to answer questions honestly about his routines, strengths, behaviors, and needs.
